Gov. lauds Crystal Lake sailor killed in massacre

CHICAGO – Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is recalling the heroism of an Illinois man killed in last week's shooting rampage at a Colorado movie theater.

Quinn said Monday that John Larimer of Crystal Lake shielded his girlfriend and saved her life. Larimer, a 2003 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School, was a Navy sailor based at Buckley Air Force Base, where he was a cryptologic technician.

Quinn spoke at a bill-signing event where he also reiterated his support for an assault weapons ban in Illinois. He says he favors a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines like the one allegedly used in the Colorado shootings.
