Seeing red

To the Editor:

It seems that the McHenry County Board really is nuts. All but three members voted to give $100,000 of taxpayer money to Habitat for Humanity. Are they crazy or just not in touch?

Half the stores in the county are empty and the other half are in trouble. The newspaper prints foreclosures in the county daily. If the board wants to be nice guys, maybe they can set up a committee to work on reducing government’s out-of-control spending, which could help the unemployed in the county.

Oh yes, misuse is everywhere. Let’s not forget about the huge tax hike that seniors just got hit with in 2012. And just what does the conservation district do with the $10 million they appropriate from taxpayers yearly; time to dissolve this group for sure.

Oh yes, let’s not forget the $10 million we burn in Woodstock alone by not having a volunteer fire department! I urge all citizens to keep tossing the politicians out until we find people who want to “serve and protect” the public treasure, not to misuse and abuse the taxpayer! Our taxpayers are smart enough to make their own charitable contributions, and certainly do not need the County Board doing it for them.
