Bloomington Council approves new water ordinance

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Bloomington City Council has approved a new drought ordinance that sets voluntary and mandatory water use restrictions.

The measure approved Monday night also doubles the fines for people who violate the ordinance during an extreme drought. A first offense will now carry a $100 fine, while a second offense carries a $200 fine and all subsequent offenses will bring a $500 penalty.

The ordinance specifies what lake levels trigger increased water use restrictions.
