Great show, audience

To the Editor:

The recent Heritage Fair, hosted by the McHenry County Historical Society, helped add $10,000 of earned income to the society that will be used for educational and preservation programs at the museum and throughout the county. Those of us involved with running the annual fun-d fair want those of you who came and enjoyed the day with us to know just how appreciative we are.

You laughingly participated in cakewalks designed to entertain the watchers as much as the walkers. Homemade goodies made their way from baker to consumer while recently relinquished can’t-live-without treasures found new homes and new dusters. Participatory entertainment continued with a pie-baking contest. The winning pie was a luscious blueberry peach. All afternoon, bidders – some winning, others waiting for the next antique, whether a trunk, quilt, sewing machine, to be auctioned – found their own entertainment in friendly competition.
