Markham man pleads not guilty in NIU student death

SYCAMORE – A Markham man has pleaded not guilty in the fatal shooting of a Northern Illinois University student last year.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports that 20-year-old Chaz Thrailkill entered his plea Monday to charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police contend Thrailkill shot 22-year-old Steven Agee II of Park Forest during an argument at an off-campus party in DeKalb last November.

Thrailkill wasn't an NIU student. Authorities say he was visiting a friend in DeKalb and was arrested in the city after witnesses identified him.

Thrailkill remains jailed on $3 million bond.
