Boomer Beat: ‘Lindy’s Landing: ‘Where everybody knows your name’
I’m pretty sure you remember the popular sitcom from the 1980s, “Cheers.”
It’s the bar “where everybody knows your name.” It is that same welcoming sentiment that characterizes Lindy’s Landing, a restaurant-bar established in Wauconda in 1965 by its kind and generous owner, Bob Lindstrom, aka “Lindy.”
Today, it may be forgotten that Wauconda was once a resort town where city dwellers could escape urban congestion and play at Phil’s Beach or Honey Hill Beach on the shores of Bangs Lake. A trip to Lindy’s evokes that era. Built on the shore of the lake, the modern Lindy’s has a large dining area with a high cathedral ceiling, flickering fireplace and, for the sports fans, the requisite screens to watch your favorite games in the bar area. Outside, a spacious deck puts diners next to a marina and private beach. A few steps away is an 800-square-foot pavilion where adults can relax while children build sand castles (however, there is no lifeguard.)
