Crystal Lake man in critical condition after being struck by car

A Crystal Lake man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Walkup Road in unincorporated Nunda Township, according to the Bull Valley Police Department.

A vehicle was traveling south on Walkup Road near Crystal Springs Road around 4:30 a.m. when the driver struck one of two pedestrians walking in the roadway, police Detective Paul McNamara said. The motorist was traveling at the posted speed limit or slightly below due to early morning rainfall.

Abraham Silva was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry in critical condition.

He has since been transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with severe head trauma and multiple lower-body injuries, McNamara said. The two men, who are cousins, were walking from McHenry to Crystal Lake.

Investigators are unsure why they were in the roadway, McNamara said. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

No citations have been issued. The investigation is ongoing.

The McHenry Fire Township Fire Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office aided the Bull Valley Police Department.
