National virtue

To the Editor:

Without the ability to express the English language properly, one can turn gossip into outright lies. Failure to report occurrences accurately periodically leads people into suspicion and speculation of someone’s true nature. If anyone has offended you or a loved one, ask them directly about what you’ve heard.

The most socially acceptable way to handle being wronged is by going straightaway to that person and discussing the matter. If you feel they won’t listen to your vexation, then take a friend along. I hope readers take this to heart, because this etiquette is taught by the Master Councilor, Christ, in the Book of Matthew 18.
