Johnson’s bunt in 7th lifts Cubs

CHICAGO – Every couple of seconds Cubs pinch hitter Reed Johnson casually peaked at St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter while he dug in at the plate.

With speedy pinch runner Tony Campana on third, Johnson didn’t think twice about dropping a bunt despite the risk of committing the final out of the seventh inning.

And Johnson’s calculation paid off with a perfectly executed bunt as St. Louis reliever Brian Fuentes couldn’t make a play on the ball that landed down the third-base line.
