9-year-old Libertyville boy dies while tubing

LAKE VILLA – Authorities said a 9-year-old boy was killed while tubing on a lake in the northern Chicago suburbs.

The Lake County coroner and Illinois Conservation Police on Sunday identified the boy as Anthony Borcia of Libertyville and said he died of blunt force trauma.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Sgt. Brett Scroggins said the accident happened Saturday afternoon. Scroggins says the boy died when he fell off the tube and was struck by a boat on Petite Lake, near Lake Villa in Lake County.

Scroggins said the accident is under investigation. No charges were immediately filed.
