Teen friends charged in separate crashes

WOODSTOCK – Two Crystal Lake men face alcohol-related charges following consecutive roadway accidents while following each other home, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas Hogan, 18, of the 100 block of Ashton Lane, was charged with zero tolerance early Monday morning. Damian Dzitkowski, 19, of the 500 block of Somerset Lane, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

The friends were following each other at around 2 a.m., traveling west on Lucas Road in unincorporated Woodstock when Hogan lost control of his Jeep during a turn, crossed the eastbound lane of traffic, and flew off the roadway, according to a sheriff's department news release.

Dzitkowski was driving directly behind the vehicle and followed it across the eastbound lanes off the roadway, striking a utility pole and some trees, police said.

Hogan was flown by Flight for Life to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Dzitkowski was transported to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock where he was treated and released.
