Peterson: Late McHenry resident remembered through letters
If you knew Anton P. Rebel only by the scores of letters to the editor he wrote, you couldn’t help but conclude the man was a curmudgeon.
If you detected a moment of silence recently on the Opinion Page, it was in honor of Rebel, who banged out letters to the editor on his typewriter for 25 years. Rebel, 91, died July 12.
If you were an elected official in city, school or county government any time since 1984, you likely were the foil for Rebel’s acerbic, libertarian critiques. The decorated World War II Marine took no prisoners.
