Won’t solve a thing
In response to Mr. Ralph DiGregor’s letter (July 31) to pass a mandatory liability insurance law for gun owners: Every time we have some insane person committing murder and mayhem, these ridiculous ideas emerge.
The inane chatter of more gun laws is great for the politicians and headlines, but won’t solve a thing. Criminals don’t respect or obey the current laws we have, and the courts don’t enforce these laws partially due to a lack of room in the prison system.
Responsible gun owners don’t commit crimes, so how can we collect on their liability insurance. The Rev. Jesse Jackson and others are lobbying to ban assault weapons, but in Chicago more young people and children are killed and maimed every week with cheap pistols that, until last year, were illegal to own and possess in Chicago. Please tell me how a law can get any more restrictive than that.
