Area under air pollution alert
The National Weather Service and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency warn that today is a pollution action day.
Widespread ozone and particulate levels are expected to reach or exceed the level at which air quality is unhealthy for those who are particularly sensitive to poorer air quality.
Active children and adults, especially those with pulmonary or respiratory diseases such as asthma, are cautioned to limit prolonged outdoor activity, according to the weather service.
