Ventura doesn't expect Angels to win protest

CHICAGO – The White Sox's walk-off win Friday against the Angels should have been a springboard for a successful nine-game homestand.

But the Angels filed an official protest centered on a controversial play in the first inning, and the looming decision by Major League Baseball, which can take up to five days, lingers over the series.

Paul Konerko tried to beat out a grounder to first with the bases loaded and was ruled safe after catcher Chris Iannetta’s throw – after a force play at home – took first baseman Albert Pujols off the bag. Konerko was inside the baseline and appeared to impede a clear throw, however the call was upheld.
