Public input sought in closure of Rockford center
ROCKFORD – State officials are gathering public input on the pending closure of the Singer Mental Health Center in Rockford.
WNIJ Radio reports that Gov. Pat Quinn has signed off on plans to close the center this fall in a cost-cutting move. Quinn says it's also part of efforts to focus on community-based mental health care.
Singer nurse Linda Kobler says there isn't a definitive transition plan in place for the community to absorb Singer's patients. Kobler adds it'll be hard to transfer court-ordered patients to other state facilities because they're overcrowded.
