Saint Joseph receives stroke, cancer re-accreditations

ELGIN – Provena Saint Joseph Hospital has received primary stroke center re-accreditation by the Joint Commission. On-site certifications are conducted by clinicians with expertise in stroke care. Hospitals must demonstrate compliance in evaluation of standards, clinical practice guidelines and performance measurement activities. Designation as a primary stroke center indicates specialists can administer treatments and interventions to prevent a stroke, mitigate the severity of a stroke or improve recovery from a stroke.

Also, the hospital’s Bob and Edna Meadows Regional Cancer Care Center received formal notification of successful review by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer and has been re-accredited for three more years with the designation of community cancer center. Provena Saint Joseph Hospital’s cancer program was first accredited by the Commission on Cancer in 1997.
