SPRING GROVE – The Spring Grove Police Department will step up its late-night patrols during the 2012 Labor Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over-Click It or Ticket" crackdown from Aug. 17 through Sept. 3.

The extra enforcement effort against impaired drivers and seat belt law violators is in response to the disproportionate number of traffic deaths involving alcohol and unbelted motorists, according to a department news release.

The period of midnight to 3 a.m. is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways, according to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Data also show that those hours have the highest percentage of alcohol-related accidents and the lowest rates of seat belt use.
