County Board to ponder referendums
WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County Board will decide Thursday whether to put a referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot to make the board chairmanship popularly elected.
The move is meant to challenge a referendum placed on the ballot by state Rep. Jack Franks to change to a county executive form of government. And the potential second referendum by the county has raised the opportunity for a third.
Board members not only will decide whether to add their referendum, but also an advisory referendum requested by anti-township activist Bob Anderson. It would ask voters whether Illinois law should be changed to ban all elected officials from simultaneously holding more than one office.
