Nephew convicted of gouging uncle's eyes

JOLIET, Ill. — A jury in Will County has convicted a 33-year-old man for trying to gouge his uncle's eyes out in a dispute over a remote control.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports that Exulam Holman of unincorporated Joliet was convicted Thursday of aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery. He could get up to 14 years in prison when he's sentenced on Oct. 11.

Holman's 63-year-old uncle, Clifford Melvin, says Holman declared "there can only be one king," pinned Melvin down and pushed his thumbs into his uncle's eye sockets.
