Samardzija fans 11; Cubs rout Astros
CHICAGO – The early mornings, extra reps and hard work during the offseason are starting to pay off for Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija.
His first full season in the starting rotation has been filled with plenty of challenges, but as Samardzija showed in the Cubs’ 7-1 win Monday against the Houston Astros, he has a chance to become a leader on the staff.
“I’m a young guy, but I’m old,” Samardzija said. “An old soul, I believe it’s called.”
