The Bears signed a safety Monday to help fill the void left by a pair of injured players.
Before practice, the team announced that it had signed 23-year-old safety Mark LeGree to a one-year contract. LeGree was the Seattle Seahawks' fifth-round pick (No. 156 overall) in 2011 after a stellar college career at Appalachian State, where he was a three-time FCS All-American.
LeGree spent parts of last season on the practice squads of the Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets. He is listed at 6 feet tall and 210 pounds.
The Bears were thin at safety because of injuries to Chris Conte (shoulder) and Brandon Hardin (neck) during Saturday's preseason game against the Washington Redskins. Hardin reportedly was at Halas Hall on Monday and wearing a neck brace before practice.
Bears coach Lovie Smith could offer more details on both players' injuries today after practice.
To clear a roster spot for LeGree, the Bears released linebacker Ronnie Thornton.
