Chicago teachers take contract case to schools
CHICAGO — The Chicago Teachers Union has begun informational pickets at several elementary schools to call attention to ongoing contract talks.
Teachers, paraprofessionals and clinicians began picketing Monday at six year-round schools where students have returned from summer break.
The union says it's still trying to reach an agreement on wages, health benefits and job security. The union and Board of Education already agreed on one big issue — hiring more teachers to help the district manage a longer school day rather than asking existing teachers to work more hours.
