To the Editor:
We’re snowbirds, but we spent the first 55 years in Illinois. My wife and I are now Florida residents, but we spend our summers here in our modest Huntley home. We therefore have no voting rights in Illinois, McHenry County, or Grafton Township, even though we pay $5,830 in real estate taxes here.
By comparison, we pay no Florida state income tax and our real estate taxes on a slightly smaller home are $1,073. Sales taxes in both states are similar.
