Sale sends Sox to rare sweep of Yankees

CHICAGO – Any signs that White Sox pitcher Chris Sale was starstruck Wednesday against the New York Yankees were well hidden.

Sale, 23, grew up watching many of the Yankees stars, but that didn’t matter when he made his first career start against them. Sale dominated one of baseball’s most explosive offenses, holding them to a lone run in the Sox’s 2-1 win. It was the first sweep of the Yankees since 2000 and their first three-game sweep at U.S. Cellular Field since 1991.

While Sale acknowledged it was a thrill to square off against the Yankees, it was business as usual for the southpaw who is forcing his way into Cy Young consideration.
