176, Briarwood intersection

To the Editor:

As a frequent commuter between the south side of Crystal Lake and McHenry County College, I appreciate that the city/state has decided to upgrade the intersection of Route 176 and Briarwood Drive. Having a stoplight at that intersection will increase safety and lessen commute times, both of which are appreciated.

However, the way the intersection is currently set up is almost unfathomably dangerous. The construction barriers make it impossible to see oncoming traffic on 176, especially in the morning when the sun is glaring. One has to pull out practically into the roadway just to see cars coming from the east. At night, the reflectors on the barriers are difficult to distinguish from headlights.
