U. of Illinois reports record number of applicants
CHICAGO (AP) — The University of Illinois says a record number of prospective freshmen applied this year for admission to its three campuses in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield.
The university says it received 48,000 applications for about 10,200 openings in the freshman class. It says that's nearly 2,800 more applications than it received last year, for an increase of 6 percent.
The Urbana-Champaign campus received the most applications, a record 31,454 for about 6,900 seats in the freshman class.
