Germano battles Brewers for second time in one week

CHICAGO – Right-hander Justin Germano makes his sixth start for the Cubs tonight, but he won't need a crash course on his opponent.

For the second time in seven days, Germano (2-3, 5.40 ERA) faces the Milwaukee Brewers. He'll try to forget his last start against Milwaukee after they tagged him for a season-high seven runs (all earned) in 4 2/3 innings in the Cubs' 9-5 loss.

The Cubs' four-game series, which begins tonight, continues a 10-game homestand. It's part of a stretch in which the Cubs play 20 of 30 games at Wrigley Field through Sept. 23. In their last 25 games the Cubs are 6-19.

Right-hander Marco Estrada (1-5, 4.23) takes the mound for the Brewers. Estrada is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in seven career games (two starts) against the Cubs. Estrade makes his first career start tonight at Wrigley. He previously did not have a record, though sported a 13.50 ERA in four relief appearances.

The Cubs acquired catcher Anthony Recker from the Oakland Athletics today for catcher Blake Lalli. Recker was optioned to Triple-A Iowa and left-handed pitcher Scott Maine was designated for assignment to open a spot on the 40-man roster. Recker, 29, hit .265 with seven doubles, nine home runs and 29 RBIs at Triple-A Sacramento.
