Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

CHICAGO – The Cubs and All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro have agreed to a seven-year contract extension, reportedly worth $60 million.

The deal includes a club option for an eighth season in 2020. The contract takes care of Castro's four arbitration seasons and three – and potentially four with the option – of his free agent years.

Castro, 22, is a career.296 hitter during his three big league seasons with 85 doubles, 25 home runs and 170 RBIs. Castro with the Cubs signed as an amateur free agent in 2006.
