McHenry County flu shot clinics begin Wednesday

WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County Department is encouraging annual flu shots for everyone 6 months and older, in line with recommendations of federal health experts.

Appointments for mercury-free shots for adults and children 9 years and older can be made beginning Wednesday at 815-334-4510 (for all clinics) or online at www.mcdh.info.

The cost is $30; Medicaid and Medicare Part B accepted.

Health department flu clinics are scheduled on the following dates/locations:

• 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. Sept. 7 at the health department office, 100 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake.

• 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the McHenry Township Office, 3703 N. Richmond Road, Johnsburg.

• 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the health department office in Building A at 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.

• 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Algonquin Township Office, 3702 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

As the flu season is long and unpredictable, the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting a flu shot before flu season begins because it takes two weeks for antibodies to develop to provide protection.

A flu shot protects not only those who get them but those around them such as pregnant women, young children, people with chronic health conditions and people 65 and older who are especially at risk for complications from the flu.

Simple ways to protect yourself also include covering coughs, washing hands and staying home when sick.
