Churches plan Friends of the Poor Walk
McHENRY – The McHenry Conference of the St. Vincent De Paul Society will host its annual Friends of the Poor Walk on Sept. 15.
The event raises awareness and funds to support direct services to people with emergency needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance, medical assistance, transportation and other individual needs.
Since 2008, the Friends of the Poor Walk has been held across the nation, attracting 18,000 walkers and raising $1.4 million to help the poor.
The McHenry Conference, which consists of The Church of the Holy Apostles, St. Mary’s, St. Patrick’s and St John’s, was ranked third in the nation last year for donations, according to a news release from the conference.
