Literacy Connection seeks volunteers, plans fundraisers

ELGIN – The Literacy Connection encourages residents to become volunteer tutors, learn about serving on the agency’s board or have a meal at one of the eateries participating in fundraising events during September.

Colonial Café, Nick’s Pizza and Pub and In The Neighborhood Deli and Café, all in Elgin, and Culver’s in Carpentersville, are making donations based on event sales.

For dates and times, visit www.elginliteracy.org. Proceeds from dining events support adult and family literacy programs.

The first fundraiser will be from 4:30 to 10 p.m. today at Colonial Café in Elgin (next to the Elgin Community College entrance on McLean Boulevard). Patrons should tell the cashier they are dining to support The Literacy Connection.

The Literacy Connection, an affiliate of ProLiteracy, serves 16 communities in the Elgin area – Algonquin, Bartlett, Carpentersville, Cary, Elgin, South Elgin, East Dundee, West Dundee, Gilberts, Hanover Park, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Streamwood and Schaumburg.

For information, visit www.elginliteracy.org, email info@elginliteracy.org or call 847-742-6565.
