Outdoors notes
Northern Illinois: Dave Kranz from Dave’s Bait, Tackle & Taxidermy in Crystal Lake reports: “Dove hunters should see good numbers until we get a few cooler nights in a row. Hunt cut hay fields for geese, if you can. Topwater fishing for bass is very good right now. I like buzz baits, Rebel Pop-R’s or Spro Frogs if there is a good weed mat. Archery hunters time to take some shots with your bow if you have not already. It’s less than four weeks away.” Call 815-455-2040 for updated reports.

Lake Michigan – Illinois: Captain Bob Rossa (www.migratorfishhunt.com) says: “Fishing has been good this past week for kings and lake trout. The kings have been in 90 to 130 feet of water. They are being caught toward the bottom of the water column. A Sigg Rig’s Green Hypnotist Fly behind a chrome Pro Troll Flasher has been catching lots of kings. The lakers are further out in 160 to 180 feet of water. Fish green and white Spin and Glows behind metal chrome dodgers toward the bottom for the lake trout. Perch fishing is very bad.”
