Fact checkers

To the Editor:

Twice in the past week, the Chicago Tribune has quoted “impartial” or “nonpartisan” fact checkers regarding Medicare savings in Obamacare.

And what could be better than quoting a fact that twists the truth into a pretzel. “Reduced spending ... comes from payments to providers not Medicare beneficiaries.” The thing is, Medicare pays little, if anything, to beneficiaries. It doesn’t reimburse for bills already paid by beneficiaries. It pays the providers directly for services rendered.

How many facts can a fact checker chuck, if a fact checker doesn’t like the facts?
