Letters to the Editor

Thanks Dad, veterans

To the Editor;

My father recently passed away. He was my friend, buddy, cohort, my Dad.

I want to brag that he was the best dad ever, mention his significance, the value of his contributions to the world, and invite you to read about his service aboard the USS Bunker Hill by searching DeRusha in the obituaries at www.NWHerald.com.

But the primary purpose of this letter is to ask you to remember our precious World War II veterans and to give thanks.

Like many WWII veterans, Dad did not speak of his service. I learned of his experiences later in life. Last year, I had the privilege of accompanying Dad on an Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. To Dad, it meant more than words could say, evident through his expressions, tears and unspoken words.

His Honor Flight was made possible by The Veterans Network Committee (www.veteransnetworkcommittee.com). Please consider supporting this wonderful organization. I am eternally indebted to them.

When I think of Dad, I just burst with joy and pride! I am grateful to all who helped us lovingly lay Dad to rest with dignity and grace.

Heartfelt thanks to Steve/Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, Pastor Erickson, the Navy Honor Detail, Kelly/Windridge Memorial Park, Periwinkle Florals, Cary Country Club, our Crystal Lake Fire Rescue family, Cary Fire Department, Cary police and John Szatkowski, our Barrington Police family, Dr. Leong, the Swanson family, friends, and all who touched our lives.
