The Land Conservancy plans nature walks

WOODSTOCK –Join ecologist Melissa Hormann for a guided tour of lands managed by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County on the second Wednesday and last Sunday of each month. The hikes will introduce area residents to “hidden” natural areas in the county – sites that play an important role in supporting local nature. The events schedule are:

•5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Yonder Prairie, 1206 S. Rose Farm Road, Woodstock.

• Noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Hennen Conservation Area, 4622 Dean St., Woodstock.

• 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at Wonder Lake Sedge Meadow, West Wonder Lake Road (behind the Village Hall).

• Noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at The Land of Oz, Menge Road, about one-half mile north of Kishwaukee Valley Road, north of Marengo.

Each walk will introduce hikers to seasonal birds, plants, frogs and other critters that local nature has to offer. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather and be prepared to walk over uneven ground.
