Missed opportunity

To the Editor:

Re: Steve Willson’s “Speak up” (It’s Your Write, Sept. 2).

I’ve been following Mr. Willson’s recent comments and personal research into the apparent lack of justification for McHenry County College’s aggressive expansion plans. I say “apparent” since, as Mr. Willson noted, there evidently has been no response from MCC to his previous comments on its supposedly faulty demographics data or to his specific class size and classroom utilization assertions.

In her Aug. 31 Northwest Herald “Views” guest column, MCC President Vicky Smith seems to have missed an opportunity to refute the “no-need” claims that more and more taxpayers, tired with increases from most taxing entities, are hearing and taking as gospel.

The first page of the Northwest Herald’s Sept. 2 “Local & Region” section notes that MCC is hosting a voter registration drive on Sept 12. For those registering, it may be a good time to take a copy of Mr. Willson’s comments and ask whether anyone can offer a response that would make sense in today’s economy.
