Kameron Sallee

Huntley, Senior

The Red Raiders quarterback threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as they defeated Prairie Ridge, 30-7, in their Fox Valley Conference Valley Division opener Friday night.

Sallee completed 8 of 24 passes for 181 yards and hit on touchdowns of 56 yards to Jake Lackovic and 30 yards to Bryce Beschorner.

He ran for a 36-yard touchdown in the third quarter that gave the Raiders a 28-7 lead over the Wolves, who were ranked No. 3 in The Associated Press Class 6A poll. It was the first time the Raiders have beaten Prairie Ridge since 2008.

Noteworthy

What’s going on?: If the third week offers any indication, the rest of the season could be filled with unpredictability.

Jacobs was 2-0 and had most of its defense returning from last season, but Grayslake North put up eight touchdowns in its 56-21 victory over the Golden Eagles.

Huntley’s defense had allowed 79 points, while Prairie Ridge had scored 100 points in two games. But the Red Raiders were stout and knocked off the Wolves, 30-7, dominating on both sides of the ball.

Genoa-Kingston was 0-2 and coming off a 1-8 season, but the Cogs upset RIchmond-Burton, 24-20. That shocker ended R-B’s 19-game Big Northern Conference East Division winning streak.

The Rockets won all their BNC East games from 2009 through 2011. Their last division loss came against Hampshire, 21-11, in Week 5 of the 2008 season. R-B won its last four division games to qualify for the postseason that year and advanced to the Class 4A playoff semifinal.
