Leland boy, 6, killed in hit-and-run crash

UNION – Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run Saturday night that left a 6-year-old boy dead in the 4600 block of Franklinville Road.



At 9:04 p.m., police and fire crews were called to Franklin­ville Road for a report of an accident involving injuries, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.



Witnesses told police that Bryan Silva of Leland had been hit by a vehicle that left without stopping. It was described as a white car or SUV with damage to one of the headlamps, according to the release. It was traveling north on Franklinville Road.



Silva was taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead.



Responding to the scene were members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the Marengo Police Department, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and the McHenry County Conservation District Police.



Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said the sheriff’s office is pursuing leads to find the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 815-338-2144 or Crime Stoppers at 800-762-7867.
