Five charged in LITH drug bust

LAKE IN THE HILLS – Five men face felony charges after police said they seized about $4,500 worth of heroin and marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia, from a Lake in the Hills home.

On Thursday, members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit served a search warrant at 535 Delaware Drive. They found about 15.2 grams of heroin, about 2.5 grams of marijuana, syringes, packaging material, grinders and digital drug scales, according to a news release.

Charged were Timothy R. Hastings, 28, of 535 Delaware Drive, Lake in the Hills; Norman Brown, 24, of 6658 N. Damen Ave., Chicago; Ishamel C. Bailey, 31, of 7849 S. Normal Ave., Chicago; Joseph D. Whitehair, 21, of 215 Foxford Drive, Cary; and Rahim B. Conda, 32, of 410 E. Douglas Ave., Apt. 2, Bloomington.

Each man is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. Hastings also had an active arrest warrant for a felony narcotics-related case.

Brown is out on parole, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

His criminal history in McHenry County includes a six-year sentence in 2009 on drug and residential burglary charges.

Whitehair posted $7,000 bail and was released; the four other men remained in custody Monday afternoon.
