Police issue 163 citations during enforcement

CRYSTAL LAKE – The Crystal Lake Police Department recently participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the Labor Day holiday.

More than 200 Law Enforcement Agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort from Aug. 17 through Sept. 3. The program increased enforcement during late-night hours and targeted drunken drivers and those not wearing a seat belt.

During the mobilization, the Crystal Lake Police Department, stopped 134 motorists for traffic violations, and issued a total of 163 traffic citations which included:

• 43 citations for unlawful use of an electronic communications device in a construction zone

• 34 safety belt citations

• 32 citations for speeding

• Nine citations for operation of uninsured motor vehicle

• Four citations for alcohol violations

In addition, seven people were arrested for the following offenses:

• Two adult males for driving under the influence of alcohol and for having a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08

• Two adult males and one adult female for driving under the influence of alcohol

• One adult male for driving under the influence of drugs, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia

• One adult male for driving with a suspended license.

The crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
