Debt in perspective
To the Editor:
The national debt is in the news these past couple of weeks – $16 trillion! How many of you out there can write that number let alone know how really big it is?
I asked 19 people to write the number and only three could do it, but they could not comprehend it.
Let me put in perspective. If I spend one dollar a second, it will take me about 31,709 years to spend 1 trillion! Then I have 15 trillion more to go. But the debt will continue to grow! That
doesn’t even take into account interest!
Whose grandchildren are going to pay that off? Given 30 years per generation, that will take more than 1,000 generations just for $1 trillion. You’re offspring are gonna love you, from here to eternity.
Isn’t socialism great?
