Seneca Township salutes Scout’s work

MARENGO – All Seneca Township needed was an inquisitive official and a determined Boy Scout, and within a year the township had an official flag that immortalized its American Indian namesake and rural roots.

Jarrett Mathews, a Life Scout from Marengo Troop 530, was the driving force behind making an official township flag a reality. The Marengo High School senior recruited artistic classmates and oversaw conceptual decisions in the creation of the flag.

“The flag looks like an Indian head that is shining down like a sun on a field of corn,” Mathews said. “I thought it best represents the township.”
