Vacation homes of Romney and Obama

comp:0000504c3e93:00000015c5:272f 0 <div class="the-content clearfix"><p>Life on the presidential campaign trail, in a word, is stressful. After weeks of kissing babies&#8217; heads, shaking hands and staying one step ahead of the opponent, it&#8217;s no wonder that both candidates have some favored vacation spots.</p> <p>As Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama&#8217;s campaigning undoubtedly gets more hectic, we&#8217;re taking a look at the places the candidates head to for an escape.</p> <h3>Mitt Romney</h3> <p><strong>Wolfeboro, NH</strong></p> <p><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Romney-Wolfeboro.png"><img class="aligncenter wp-image-97372" title="Romney-Wolfeboro" src="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Romney-Wolfeboro.png" alt="" width="445" height="251" /></a></p> <p>When the Republican candidate wanted to get away this summer, he headed north to <a href="http://www.zillow.com/nh/">New Hampshire, </a>where he has long held a family compound on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in <a href="http://www.zillow.com/town-of-wolfeboro-nh/">Wolfeboro</a>. Coined the &#8220;oldest resort town in America,&#8221; Wolfeboro has a small population of 6,269. It&#8217;s here that Romney owns a 13-acre estate that has a <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/romney-family-vacation-in-wolfeboro-nh/2012/07/10/gJQAbtJvaW_gallery.html#photo=1">$630,000 boathouse</a>, tennis and volleyball courts and a shoreline stretching 768 feet. According to property records, Mitt and Ann Romney purchased the home for about $3 million in 1997.</p> <p>The main house is 5,400 square feet, and other guest homes provide housing for Romney&#8217;s five sons and 18 grandchildren.</p> <p><strong>Park City, UT</strong></p> <p><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Romney-utah-ski-home.jpg"><img class="aligncenter wp-image-97371" title="Romney utah ski home" src="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Romney-utah-ski-home.jpg" alt="" width="448" height="281" /></a></p> <p>The Romneys previously owned a Park City, UT vacation home, which they sold in 2009 for a little under the $5.25 million asking price. More chalet than cabin, <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3853-Rising-Star-Ln-Park-City-UT-84060/2140267307_zpid/">Romney’s former 7-bedroom, 9.5-bath home</a> sits at the end of a cul-de-sac on nearly 11 acres and measures 9,514 square feet. A premier destination for snow sports enthusiasts, <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Park-City-UT/">Park City real estate</a> doesn’t come cheap; the median list price currently sits at $699,000.</p> <h3>Barack Obama</h3> <p>The president only owns one home, but following most of his predecessors, each summer he heads to the &#8220;Summer White House.&#8221; His vacation spots of choice? <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homes/hi_rb/">Hawaii</a>, his birth state, and Martha&#8217;s Vineyard.</p> <p><strong>Hawaii</strong></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Obama-Hawaii-rental.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-97369" title="Obama Hawaii rental" src="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Obama-Hawaii-rental-e1347320905560.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="330" /></a><em>Obama rented this home in December 2011.<br /> </em></p> <p>Obama prefers the white sand beaches of Hawaii over the white slopes of Utah. For the first few years of his presidency, he and his family stayed at the <a href="http://www.paradisepointestates.com/">Paradise Point Estate</a> on Kailua Bay on O&#8217;ahu. Described as a &#8220;lavish oceanfront estate fully appointed with exquisite amenities,&#8221; the home is available for rent year-round. However, when the Obamas made the trek to Hawaii in December 2011, the estate was booked, so they rented a private home, just five houses down.</p> <p>There aren&#8217;t any hotels in Kailua, and the <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_rent/">rental home</a> they chose was easily cordoned off by the Secret Service, allowing the first family to romp on the beach as they pleased.</p> <p><strong>Martha&#8217;s Vineyard</strong></p> <p><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Obama-Martha-Vineyard-rental.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-97370" title="Obama Martha Vineyard rental" src="http://www.zillow.com/blog/files/2012/09/Obama-Martha-Vineyard-rental-e1347320882671.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="281" /></a></p> <p><strong></strong>Obama is not the only president to spend time in the Vineyard; <a href="http://www.mvmagazine.com/article.php?22189">according to Martha’s Vineyard magazine</a>, John Adams, Ulysses S. Grant, Chester Arthur, John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton are just a few of the nation&#8217;s leaders who spent time in this prestigious vacation destination.</p> <p>Obama and his family rented a Cape Cod-style 6-bed home in the small town of <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homes/Chilmark-MA/">Chilmark</a>. A guest house on the property undoubtedly provided boarding for the Secret Service and other personnel. The home was recently available as a <a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/2011-08-16/rental-of-the-week-presidential-worthy-home-in-marthas-vineyard/">seasonal rental for $9,000 a month</a>.</p> <p><strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/2012-09-04/homes-of-mitt-romney-and-barack-obama/">Homes of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama</a></strong></li> <li><strong><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/2012-01-24/mitt-romneys-6-homes/">Mitt Romney&#8217;s 6 Homes</a></strong></li> <li><strong><a href="http://www.zillow.com/blog/2012-02-17/obama-bush-clinton-and-more-homes-of-u-s-presidents/">Bush, Clinton and More Houses of US Presidents</a></strong></li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> </div>
