Good Shepherd to address fall prevention

BARRINGTON – A fall can significantly affect a person’s quality of life, which is why Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital partnered with the Lake County Fall Prevention Task Force of the Lake County Health Department in 2009 to address the risk of falling.

The Fall Prevention Initiative implemented the evidence-based program Matter-of-Balance at the community level and in senior-living facilities. The program was developed at Boston University,

The hospital will host a Fall Prevention Awareness Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the Meadow/Prairie Room at Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W. Route 22, Barrington.

Participants will be able to discuss with hospital staff the ways to reduce the risk of falling.

Activities will include fall prevention information from the emergency department, medication management information from pharmacists, fitness training information from the hospital fitness center, blood-pressure screenings, balance screenings with a physical therapist, and foot care information with a podiatrist.

Space is limited and registration is required.
