Better spent

To the Editor:

I have become aware of the Cary Park District’s intentions to purchase Chalet Golf Course. It seems as if the district was trying to keep this a secret. Supposedly, Foxford Hills has brought in $1.87 million, but no mention of the operating expenses or possible bonds that are due. If Foxford Hills is profitable, why isn’t the district sharing that money with the taxpayers? Chalet’s already bankrupt, how can anyone think the district is going to do better? It’s not even located in Cary!

Maplewood is in the heart of town; the ball fields are used by many children. Wouldn’t taxpayer money be better spent saving this precious resource rather than the purchase of another golf course? How many children are enrolled in Little League and how many children can afford the very expensive luxury of playing golf?
