To the Editor:
I endorse Dennis Anderson, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in the 14th District. The choice is between Dennis, a moderate Democrat, and Randy Hultgren, a far-right-wing Republican who votes consistently with the so-called tea party movement and Rep. Paul Ryan.
McHenry County has the reputation of being ultra-conservative. My experience is that we are politically moderate, and although predominantly Republican, more middle of the road. We host a lot of independent voters who are fed up with both parties, a majority of moderate Republicans, the true inheritors of the tradition of Lincoln, and Democrats who trend more conservative. On the fringes are a few radical left- and right-wingers who are primarily responsible for the gridlock in Washington. Among them is Hultgren.
The future of our country lies with moderate representatives of both parties who are willing to come together in good faith and work out ways of compromise to move us ahead as a nation.
