Norge to host Summer Ski Jump Tournament

FOX RIVER GROVE – Norge Ski Club will host its 27th annual Summer Ski Jump Tournament on Sept. 29 and 30.

Competitors from across the country will compete at Norge, the largest summer competition in the Midwest, trying to improve their national rankings as they vie for points and cash prizes.

At noon Saturday, Norge will kick off the weekend with a tournament that will use the 5- through 40-meter junior hills, followed by elite skiers competing on Norge’s largest hill, the K70, in the early afternoon.

Afterward, there will be live entertainment, a bouncy house for children and a bonfire for spectators. Food and beverages will be available.

Sunday, gates open at 11 a.m., and the skiers will start their trial round on the Big Hill at noon. Each athlete then will make two additional jumps, which will be judged as their first and second competitive rounds. After completion of the sanctioned USSA Ski Team event, there will be a nonsanctioned competition in which qualifying athletes will vie for a cash prize.

Admission buttons, at $10, are available through Friday from local merchants in the Fox River Grove area. They can be obtained online a for $11.

Admission for both days is $15 at the gate. Admission for children 12 and under is free when when accompanied by a parent.
