Springfield School Board adopts budget

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield School Board has adopted a budget that's projected to leave the education fund almost $11 million in the red.

The State Journal-Register reported that the board voted 5-2 Monday to approve the 2012-13 budget.

The education fund is the district's largest fund. It pays for teacher salaries and educational programs.

The district's $206 million budget includes plans to cut 40 positions in the district, including 32 teachers. Those and other cuts are designed to save the district $4 million.
