Woodstock man pleads not guilty to racing in fatal crash

WOODSTOCK – A Woodstock man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that stem from a crash that killed two teens July 1.

Daniel Huber, 21, was first charged with failure to report a fatal traffic crash and aggravated street racing. A charge of obstruction of justice was added after he was indicted.

Jacob Norys and Alec Kaiser, both 16, were killed about 2:02 a.m. July 1 when the 2010 Hyundai Elantra that Kaiser was driving swerved off the roadway in the 14200 block of Davis Road. The car rolled and struck a tree and a brick pillar.

Police have said they believe Huber was racing the teens and did not report the crash. Surveillance video taken shortly before the crash showed Huber , Norys and Kaiser in the parking lot of a gas station.

According to a deputy’s report, when Huber was interviewed about nine days after the crash, he said, unprovoked, “Be sure to note that I was not there when he crashed.”

Huber also denied having a passenger in his car, but police later determined that was not true, authorities said.

Huber posted a $4,500 bond and was released Aug. 21. His next scheduled court date is Oct. 30.
